This is really, really off topic. (Sort of. I mean, Narayani people like gardening, and I need the ginger because Uru makes me really motion sick.) I asked some family members this too, but haven't heard back yet, so I figured what the heck, ask some forum people. Has anyone ever grown ginger? I've been reading about how to do it, but the information has been... um... sketchy. In general, what have your experiences been with growing it? More specifically: how fresh does the rhizome actually need to be when planted? Just the kind you eat, or does it need to be newer than that? Did you use a grow light or just the sun? Which zone are you in, if you used the sun? Thanks in advance!

To update: I discovered that to grow ginger where I live would require a grow light and a dehumidifier. Since that would be so energy-inefficient, I don't think I'll be cultivating my own. On the plus side, using ginger has really helped the motion sickness. I just peel a section of the rhizome, slice it, steep it for awhile in boiling water, and I'm good to go.
