Right now I'm just basking in the feeling of having a blog again....

I really have no time to write anything, but I just wanted to share this....I was reading over some essays today with my brother, prepping for our discussion in AP English, when I happened to be pacing past a mirror and I noticed that I had a sticky note on my butt that made copious reference to "The Age of Anxiety" ;D We both sat there laughing for three minutes straight.

Completely pointless, yes. I'll make a longer and more inclusive blog post when I have time.

Usually, I don't get terribly stressed over school. I really enjoy it, however much I complain about the administration, the amount of homework, and so on. Lately, though, I've been just been feeling *so* harried and scattered. Like there's just too much stuff clogging up my life.

Part of it is probably normal transitional stuff - I've always had issues getting used to new situations. Part of it is also anxiety about college - I've finally come to the conclusion that my family is incapable of helping me with that process right now, and I'll have to figure out ways to schedule, prepare for, and most importantly, get to visits/interviews/what have you by myself. Pazuzu, this probably means I won't make it down to Wesleyan. Sorry, buddy. :(

AP English is also causing some problems. It's the first class I've had with my brother since 7th grade. I love him to pieces, but he can be really competitive, and it's been kind of upsetting me. The worst part of it is that it feel like it's my fault - English has always been sort of "my" strength, one of the major things that set me apart from him. I don't know if I'm just being really defensive - I mean, don't I *want* him to do well? Don't I *want* him to perform to the best of his ability, even if his best is better than mine in some ways? I guess why it's bothering me is that it touches on that little fear we probably all have tucked away somewhere that we're really not as smart or as virtuous or as deserving as we'd like to think we are, and (possibly worse) everyone we respect and would like to have the respect of is going to find out about those deficiencies.

Whew! Working through all that made me feel a little better, I guess. I haven't had much of a chance to talk with my mom, because she's been really sick. I hate having to leave her to go to school when she's feeling poorly. Hopefully the new medicine they're putting her on will do something. Oh, and I almost forgot, I'm having my wisdom teeth out on Friday. I have time to got to English before the whole shebang gets underway, but I don't know if I will or not, because I get mighty cranky if I don't have my orange juice. ;) (You aren't allowed to eat or drink anything for about 12 hours before they take them out.)

Aww... it's okay... I understand. :) I'll miss you, though... very sorry to hear that you probably won't be able to visit, although you could always take a bus down here if your parents would let you do so. If not, I guess that I'll have to drop by your vicinity instead. ;)

Sorry to hear that your family is being so unhelpful when you most need them. :( *hugs* If you need any help whatsoever in that area, please give me a poke, and I'll do the best I can.

Hope that your mother feels better, that you feel less swamped with work, and that the wisdom-tooth extraction goes smoothly (Ick! You too, huh?).

Thanks. Sorry I've been so nonexistent in the past couple of weeks. The procedure is being done tomorrow - I'll be glad to have it over with.

In other news, the school's fire alarm doesn't work. >:( You'd think they would have considered that important factor when they tore out the whole intercom/audio system. We've got waaay to many kids in there for them to screw it up. Oddly enough, the elementary school near me is having the opposite problem - it won't turn off, and they don't know what's setting it off. They had to put all the kids in the fire station, because there was a thunderstorm. They didn't seem scared, though; they were having a great time. It was all I heard about today at work.

Well, I'm off! Should only take an hour. When I come back, I'll rather resemble a chipmunk :)

*huggles*

Good luck, my friend. I had wisdom tooth surgery myself about four years ago. Not exactly fun.

Still, the swelling doesn't last for long and the salt water rinse really makes your mouth feel better!

Be thinking of you...

I love Narayan. It has to be my favorite age of the Myst series.

I would buy an entire game devoted to it for a considerable sum of money.

Yeah, Sirrus is quite a hit with some folks. I've often wondered if it's because he's more conventionally attractive than most of the characters we see portrayed in the games, but I think there's a psychological element to it too. It's harder to write him off as just completely off his rocker until you get deeper down and look at some of the stuff he says/writes. You want to see what makes him tick.

I was going to write an actual blog post, but I think my energy is probably better spent otherwise as I'm running out of time. Suffice it to say that I've had quite a transient existence this summer, with lots of moving about and sleeping in improbable places. There were some blissful bits in about equal balance with the gut-wrenching ones, but I'm looking forward to going to school again, where I'll have a little more stability.

I have a new blog!

http://sortofdustywonder.wordpress.com/

I should warn that it's not always 100% family-friendly (partly why I won't be posting the content here regularly). Overall, it's about my experiences job-hunting in the current economy and about random things I squee over in history or on the internet.
